Civil War Program
Are you looking for a Civil War Re-enactor for your next event? Need a storyteller who can interact with your guests or students to bring history to life?
As a full time musician, Bill Foley is accustomed to live performances, from small intimate audiences to large crowds. Bill is able to interact with your guests or students and engage them in the American Civil War, whether they are history buffs or just getting started. He loves nothing more than nurturing people’s interest in history, through real stories and insights that bring history out of books and to life.
Bill’s family was originally from York, Pennsylvania, which is just outside of Gettysburg. In fact, Bill’s first job as a pre-teen was working at the Gettysburg National Military Park! He has had a life long love of the American Civil War. In addition, he has studied as an actor and has performed in hundreds of plays, films, commercials and various live productions for over 25 years.
Through his Living History program, Bill combines all of his loves into one performance! Each can be tailored to meet your needs, including: guest photos, light mingling, presentation/storytelling and/or a Q and A session. If you prefer, there is even a slide presentation to take guests on a virtual tour of a Civil War battlefield. Rest assured, though, this is more than a "costumed character." Bill is a life long student of the American Civil War and strives to maintain his uniform, weapons and appearance (from head to toe) as authentic as possible. Bill’s experience as a full time musician also helps him to understand people’s interest level and to interact appropriately.
In addition to Bill, his wife, Cresha, is also an enthusiast and often travels with him. She has several dresses she has custom made. She is able to speak from the women’s perspective, as well as discuss the elements of clothing women wore during the period. Inquire about adding this element to your event.
Suggested Formats
Lecture/Question and Answer - Looking for a more formal presentation with an opportunity for questions and answers? While the lecture/question and answer format is more traditional, Bill has several different presentation topics and can discuss focus areas for a customized event. Following which, he will take questions from the audience.
Interactive/Mingling - Some events are less formal in nature. At this type of event, Bill can mingle with the audience and let their questions lead the discussion. He can generate dialogue, while tailoring the experience to the interest of participants.
Audio Visual Led Presentation - Bill has several slide sets from a "Virtual Tour of Gettysburg" to the "Little Known Stories of the Civil War." The photo slides enhance the experience of participants by providing another visual for each story.
